What to Expect at Your Visits

Prenatal Visit Schedule

Keeping you healthy and safe is very important to us. During your visits, ask your provider questions and tell them your concerns.

Around 8 weeks of pregnancy, you’ll have your first OB visit. You will meet with a nurse to talk about your history. The nurse will give you important information about pregnancy and how to contact your Provider. After your visit, you will get your blood drawn to test for:

  • Blood Type
  • Antibody Screen
  • Complete Blood Count (CBC)
  • Hepatitis B and C
  • Syphilis
  • Rubella and Varicella
  • HIV Screening
  • Urine Culture
  • Screen for kidney function (if needed)
  • Screen for diabetes (if needed)

Between 10-12 weeks of pregnancy is your first visit with a care Provider. You will be weighed and have your blood pressure checked. Your urine may be checked for bacteria, protein, or sugar. You’ll have a general physical exam that will include a breast and pelvic exam. A pap smear may also be done if you’re due for your screening. As early as 10-12 weeks, you may be able to hear your baby’s heartbeat using a Doppler ultrasound.

During pregnancy, your Provider may ask questions about your health and your mood. Depression can be common during pregnancy and after giving birth (postpartum). Experts recommend that all pregnant patients are screened for depression. If it isn’t treated, depression can cause problems during pregnancy and birth.

You can message your Provider if you have medical concerns between visits. For urgent questions, please call the office to speak with a Triage nurse.
